Art Ballelli is from Westerly, Rhode Island and received his BA from Salve Regina University in 1995 and his MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2000. The paintings of Edward Hopper, Giorgio De Chirico, and Jeffery Smart influence Art’s work more than any other visual artists. Other artist including Radiohead, the Beatles, Lorde, Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsystem, Josh Pyke, and Arcade Fire have also made a huge contribution to the artist he is today. He describes his current practice as an exercise in capturing the zeitgeist of early 21st century America.  Art considers himself a Contemporary Precisionist.  Although he would be considered a Realist he is more concerned with the graphic nature and formal aspects of creating a piece. Composition, color, pattern, and a sense of light come first and a narrative, or sense of “something”, is created along the way.
