Artist Statement

In my recent work, I have been exploring themes of space, surface and memory. The imagery of this work came from a time a few years ago when I began waking many mornings from a type of reoccurring dream. The dreams were/are me floating slowly through spaces. The spaces could be large and atmospheric or closed and tunnel-like. In either space, there’s always forward movement, like the dream is a snippet of an uneventful segment of an adventure story that is never described. I began documenting these disappearing environments each morning and these drawings and writings began this series of work. Some themes have been emerging from these pieces as I attempt to recreate the original feel of each space. Though to be quite honest, as I make a piece the themes and mood will often change to reflect my current state. By remaining open to change while working on a piece, I am able to respond to the work as it progresses.
