Artist Statement

Through my work I explore the prevailing unity found in the eternal rhythms of nature. I am drawn to the regenerative solitude found in the timeless spaces I depict. I have had a deep connection with the landscape since I was a small child, raised on the remnants of a 50-plus-acre farm. There I explored miles of old work paths that led to secluded places. I still revel in the remembered sense of peace found in the silence and solitude of those encounters. Today I find this peace during the summers that I spend in a remote dune cottage on the tip of Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable, MA. There are no modern conveniences and it is only accessible by four-wheel drive or boat. It is here that I continue my intimate connection with the landscape, here that I contemplate the passage of time as the light travels across the sky and casts shadows in empty spaces.

I often use mixed media in my paintings incorporating cold or hot wax, and various drawing materials. I have a BFA in printmaking and an MFA in painting from UMass Dartmouth and teach various workshops through the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable, MA.
