ANTONIA TYZ PEEPLES & LARRY HOROWITZ Path of Curiosity and Wonder

Opening Reception Saturday, July 12th 5-8pm
Exhibit: July 12 – August 1

My artistic goal is to explore the world through my eyes and share this vision through the painting. I am looking to create a time and space for the viewer to reflect on their own memories.  The alternate reality I create while painting is a type of meditation. The painting becomes my sanctuary. All the forms and designs created by the ocean are endlessly distinct as snowflakes. Antonia Tyz Peeples

In plein air, there are thousands of stimuli bombarding me; the constantly changing light, the sounds and animals inhabiting the woods, the briny smells of the distant sea…they all influence the truth I tell. I cast a wide net, collecting more information than I will ever need.

The unedited manuscript is then brought into my studio for a long distillation process. I spend months creating light and space. At some point the painting develops a heartbeat, a life of its own where feelings can exist. After a long day of painting, the work I do in the studio carries over into my sleeping hours. If there is a painting that was giving me trouble that day, it is resolved through a dream in an abstract, yet clear and simple way. Other times I dream of landscapes yet to be painted. Although I have not seen these views, I seem to find their motifs and emotional qualities as I paint new vistas.

Upon much reflection, I’ve come full circle, combining the time spent en plein air and in the studio with my subconscious. My best paintings fall somewhere between abstraction and reality. I leave out enough information to invite the viewer to enter the scene and have their own interpretation.  Larry Horowitz
